In anticipation of the bicentennial of photography, to be celebrated in 2026–2027, the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap) launched a national photographic commission in September 2024 titled Réinventer la photographie (Reinventing Photography). Two hundred years after the emergence of the medium, this initiative invites artists and authors to examine its contemporary transformations and explore new forms of visual creation. Against a backdrop defined by the rise of digital technologies and artificial intelligence tools—alongside a renewed interest in historical processes—this commission affirms the vitality of a medium in constant flux. It provides a space for reflection and experimentation regarding what photography can be today, situated at the intersection of heritage, innovation, and reinvention.

Photographs by Mali Arun, François Bellabas, Lucien Bitaux, Marie Bovo, Anne-Lise Broyer, Gaëlle Choisne, Sybil Coovi, Handemagnon, Isabelle Giovacchini, Laurent Lafolie, Laurent Millet, Constance Nouvel, Baptiste Rabichon, Michel Slomka, Stéphanie Solinas, and Marie Sommer.

Texts by Jean-Christophe Bailly, Lotte Arndt, Eve Bester, Nathalie Boulouch, Pauline Briand, Francesco Biasi, Douce Dibondo, Marcelline Delbecq, Fannie Escoulen, Arno Gisinger, Henri Guette, Céline Curiol, Marie Lechner, Léa Miranda, Gerald Petit, and Clara Schulmann.
