What began with a personal response to a cancer diagnosis returns for its second edition after its debut in 2025.
During chemotherapy, Berlin-based photographer and film editor Kai Kniepkamp created the photographic series ME, MYSELF & DIE. In 2025, it became the starting point for an exhibition and symposium where patients, relatives, healthcare professionals, therapists, artists and visitors came together to share experiences and perspectives.
From 20 to 23 August 2026, KUNST & KREBS returns to artloft.berlin.
This year’s exhibition expands into a group exhibition, bringing together different artistic perspectives on illness, death and life.
Alongside works by Kai Kniepkamp, the exhibition features photographic series by Birte Zellentin, Annette Rausch and Patrick Budenz. Their work differs in visual language, artistic approach and personal perspective, opening up different perspectives on illness, death and life. Additional artists will contribute further works to the exhibition.
The exhibition is accompanied once again by a two-day symposium bringing together voices from medicine, therapy, psycho-oncology, the arts, culture and patient organisations. Together with people living with cancer, relatives and visitors, they will explore personal experiences, different perspectives and the role art can play in dealing with illness, loss and change.
KUNST & KREBS is neither a medical conference nor a traditional support-group event. It is a place where people can meet without first having to explain themselves or their situation. For many participants, this creates a rare space for honest conversation, exchange and connection.
The exhibition opens the dialogue. The symposium continues it.
