Originally conceived by Crown Princess Victoria and realized by Wilhelm von Bode, construction on Berlin's Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum began in 1897. Opening in 1904, the institution pioneered a radical display strategy by showcasing paintings and sculptures on an equal footing. Renamed in 1956 to honor its first director, the building underwent extensive restoration following severe World War II damage and reunited its collections after German reunification. Following a major renovation, the Bode-Museum reopened in 2006 to house the Sculpture Collection, Museum of Byzantine Art, and the Numismatic Collection. Today, it stands as a premier institution featuring both sculpture and Byzantine art, enriched by selections from the Gemäldegalerie.
