The Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB), in cooperation with the Freundeskreis der UdK Berlin | Karl Hofer Gesellschaft e. V., has awarded the IBB-Preis für Photographie for the 19th time. This year’s winners are Jana Pressler (class of Manfred Pernice) and Moritz Haase (class of Heike Föll).
Jana Pressler is being honored for her compelling exploration of the potential of photography today. She precisely contrasts the analog process, with its questions of duration and time, against the immense flood of images on social media, which no longer questions anything but merely affirms. The processual, the indexical, the measurement of time, the dialectic of surface and space in photography—these questions relevant to photography find their way into her work and pique the viewer’s curiosity.
Moritz Haase receives the recognition prize for his photographic engagement with reality through the medium of photography. Personal encounters and experiences form the basis of his portraits, but also shape his photographs of landscapes and plants, which he captures from such unusual perspectives that they, too, resemble portraits. The combination of these themes from divergent times and places opens up a unique cosmos.
