photo basel is Switzerland’s first and only art fair dedicated solely to photography. Now in its eleventh edition, the fair once again brings together galleries from around the world in a unique and authentic setting. It sees itself as an inclusive platform that connects all players in the art world.

photo basel actively contributes to dialogue in the field of photography and makes photographic art accessible to a broad audience through a diverse supporting programme. From 16 to 21 June 2026, photo basel welcomes more than 40 international galleries.

photo basel is delighted to welcome back returning galleries including Bildhalle (Zurich), Dorothée Nilsson (Berlin), IBASHO (Antwerp), Galerie Esther Woerdehoff (Paris), and Galerija Fotografija (Ljubljana), as well as new galleries such as Galerie Scena (Tokyo), Atlas (London), O-Art Project (Lima), and Galerie Bessières Art contemporain (Paris), among many others.

In addition to the exhibited works, photo basel offers an extensive supporting programme, including free guided tours, special curated routes, and panel talks.

photo basel presents more than 450 works by almost 170 artists. In doing so, it embraces a wide variety of positions and showcases both contemporary and classical photographic works. Among the highlights of the fair are internationally renowned artistic positions, including Vivian Maier, Man Ray, André Kertész, Philipp Giegel, Marina Abramović, Imogen Cunningham, as well as Susa Templin, Carlos Leal, Roger Ballen, and many more.

beyond photography

“beyond photography” is a curated selection of artistic positions that expand the medium of photography beyond its traditional boundaries through various experimental printing techniques as well as the transition from the two-dimensional image to three-dimensional form. The section brings together different approaches and highlights practices that actively rethink the medium of photography.

Susa Templin (electron libre)

Susa Templin’s works are situated at the intersection of photography, sculpture, and installation. In her works, she explores space, architecture, and perception, transforming photographic images into sculptural forms. Through layering, fragmentation, and spatial arrangement, she creates complex compositions that oscillate between surface and body, image and object. In this way, Susa Templin opens up new perspectives on the relationship between image, material, and space. (electron libre)

Ayo Banton (Doyle Wham)

Ayo Banton works with photography, light, and floral arrangements. His works emerge from carefully composed flower sculptures, which he translates photographically into multilayered visual worlds. In doing so, he combines references to art history with a contemporary photographic language. In his practice, Ayo Banton combines different photographic techniques. In addition to solarised prints, he also develops processes in which he combines cyanotypes with digitally recorded spectrograms of plant signal data. The result is a body of work that interweaves nature, science, and artistic research.

Inka and Niclas (Dorothée Nilsson Gallery)

The sculptural works of the artist duo are created in close relation to the exhibited photographs. Hand-shaped and dipped into a photographic emulsion, they carry fragments of the same image on their surface and translate photography into threedimensional space. In this way, the artists explore the materiality, legibility, and spatial presence of photographic images.

novum

“novum” brings together works that are being shown publicly for the first time—either newly produced especially for photo basel or previously unseen works, whether freshly completed, newly discovered, or rediscovered. What unites them is their premiere: each work is presented to the photo basel audience for the very first time.

annabelle’s choice

The magazine annabelle is a partner of the upcoming edition of photo basel. As part of this collaboration, the picture editors of annabelle select a number of works by female photographers that are given particular prominence at the fair due to their subject matter or technique.

photo basel in conversation

photo basel presents a series of panel discussions on various topics as well as artist talks with photographers whose works are being shown at the 11th edition of photo basel.
