The photo series “Über Mütter und Töchter: Lichtenberg” (About mothers and daughters: Lichtenberg) by Marie Eberhardt was created in close collaboration with ten mother-daughter pairs from Berlin-Lichtenberg. Shot on analogue film in their apartments and at locations meaningful to them, these portraits capture relationships balanced between closeness and distance, tension and connection. The district serves not merely as a backdrop, but as a social and biographical space that deeply shapes the narrative.

The project combines documentary photography with a collaborative approach, rooted in personal conversations that formed the foundation for each photographic encounter. The work is further expanded by interviews and a film. Through this multi-layered approach, the project offers insight into individual lives, intergenerational influences, and family structures within an urban context.

Using mother-daughter relationships as an emotional starting point, the series weaves personal stories with social spaces to create a nuanced portrait of everyday life in Lichtenberg.
