In a time of increasing social inequality, ecological crises, and political polarization, the question of solidarity is becoming more urgent once again. Where do people stand up for others or for a cause? Where do alliances and shared goals emerge? And when does an expression of solidarity actually become solidarity?

The exhibition “Bildräume der Solidarität” (Image Spaces of Solidarity) brings together artistic works that approach these questions in different ways. They render solidarity visible, examine its conditions, or understand themselves as part of solidaristic processes. In doing so, the focus shifts from representation to relation: toward networks, forms of cohesion, and resistance that unfold between people, images, and institutions.

As an exhibition space, Bildräume der Solidarität is also conceived as a social space. Emerging from an open call, the project – alongside the presentation of the works – creates situations of encounter and exchange: with the participating artists as well as with the audience. Within these constellations, solidarity is tested as something that develops through dialogue and takes shape in collective thinking.

The decision to bring together 32 positions was deliberate, driven by the impulse to make the breadth and polyphony of the submissions visible. The resulting density of the exhibition space is intentional – a productive overload that allows each work its own space while also enabling unforeseen connections to emerge.
