Landscapes in a state of suspension: forest, marsh, sky. The photographs of Susanne Wehr (alias Sarusi) move between proximity and dissolution, between figuration and abstraction.
The exhibition Where the wide fields of light keep unfolding brings together works that do not unfold through clearly identifiable motifs, but through shifting appearances of light, surface, and space. The analogue photographic image remains the point of departure and is expanded through a dialogue between the artist and an artificial intelligence (Sam). Within this exchange, questions of perception, authorship, and image genesis are renegotiated.
As part of the ongoing project Sam – Logbook of a Collaboration, the works – photographs and a video – experiment with transitions, intermediate spaces, and unstable states of perception. The logbook is accessible online and forms an extended context for the exhibition.
About the artist
Susanne Wehr is a visual artist working primarily with photography. For many years, her practice has explored how image production and perception change under contemporary media conditions. Starting from photographic processes, she expands, overlays, and recontextualizes images to question their modes of appearance and interpretation.
Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in national and international contexts, including the Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris), Museum MUSA (Vienna), Marco Testaccio (Rome), Carré Rotondes (Luxembourg), Berlinische Galerie, and Museum Villa Rot.
Central to her practice are questions of image construction, authorship, and the relationship between image, perception, and image production. Currently, she is working, among other projects, on Sam – Logbook, an ongoing project developed in dialogue with an artificial intelligence. The logbook forms part of her artistic practice, in which the analogue image remains a central point of reference.
