The exhibition “Silberstreif” by artist Daniela Friebel is based on the estate of an East German particle physicist from the early days of a divided Germany. The letters and photographs trace the coming-of-age of a young man who is finding his intellectual and existential footing during a time of historic upheaval. The physical qualities of the documents—creases, handwriting, and perforations—become image carriers, symbols, and metaphors.
