Environmental photography makes tangible the planetary upheavals that affect us all. It reveals what we are losing every day, everywhere. But it also tells of shared new beginnings and visions, the existential forces that motivate us to act for a livable future. Last but not least, environmental photography celebrates our curiosity about and wonder at the immeasurable diversity of this planet, on which we are all interconnected.
In the seminar “Environmental Photography: Images Shape the Future,” (taught in German) you will acquire in-depth knowledge of the theory and practice of environmental photography, as well as the epochal transformation processes in our environmental conditions. In practical exercises, you will develop your own documentary or artistic photographic works and reflect on them in discussions with your instructors and classmates. Joint excursions will take us to the Green Belt, which stretches across Europe along the former Iron Curtain, and to the renowned environmental photography festival “horizonte zingst.”
In the seminar you will acquire in-depth knowledge of the theory and practice of environmental photography, as well as the epochal transformation processes in our environmental environment.

The seminar “Environmental Photography: Images Shape the Future” is offered by the International Academy for Photography e. V. and is implemented in cooperation with the “horizonte zingst” Environmental Photography Festival and the EuroNatur Foundation.
Background
The International Academy for Photography e. V. operated the New School for Photography Berlin (2007–2023), which was the first photography school in Germany to introduce a specialization in environmental photography in 2020. Since then, IAPh e. V. has organized national and international projects and exhibitions in cooperation with strong partners such as the Campus Stadt Natur of Grün Berlin, the EuroNatur Foundation, and the environmental photography festival “horizonte zingst”. This gives the IAPh e. V. a unique expertise in Germany in the field of environmental photography, which is central to the transformation of our society.
