For the eleventh year, Sony Germany and Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus are presenting the photographs from the Sony World Photography Awards 2025. From 7 p.m. on 16 October 2025, visitors will be able to marvel at outstanding photographic works from genres and categories such as architecture and design, creative, documentary projects, environment, landscape, portfolio, portrait, sport, still life, wildlife and nature. With a total of 180 photographs, the exhibition will feature not only the winning images from the Professional and Open competitions, but also the National Awards from various countries from 17 October to 18 January 2026.
A total of over 419,000 images from more than 200 countries and territories were submitted for this year’s awards competition. The award-winning photographs are on display on two entire floors of the Willy-Brandt-Haus. Among them is the complete series by this year’s ‘Photographer of the Year 2025,’ Zed Nelson. The British photographer’s documentary project ‘The Anthropocene Illusion’ spans six years and four continents and explores the deeply fractured relationship between humans and nature.
Nelson’s series focuses on humanity’s response and its impact on the planet. The project deals with artificial spaces created by humans to experience and interact with nature: from safari parks, nature reserves and holiday resorts to natural history museums, zoos and green cities. Nelson uses these constructions as a lens to examine the dissonance between humanity’s desire to remain connected to nature and the ongoing environmental destruction caused by human activities.
The diversity of all the images brings together a wide variety of themes and approaches in a single exhibition, presenting visitors photography projects of the past year.
